When The Devil Wears Prada made its way to London’s West End in late 2024, it arrived with an all-new creative team and a fresh production, including a striking lighting design by renowned lighting designer Bruno Poet. To bring the show’s dynamic blend of high fashion, theatrical storytelling, and musical energy to life, Poet specified over 100 GLP fixtures from the impression X5 Series, along with JDC1 hybrid strobes. The result? A visually stunning production that seamlessly transitions between intimate character moments and electrifying, runway-inspired performances.
A Bold and Versatile Lighting Design
Bruno Poet, known for his work across theatre, opera, and live concerts, took full advantage of GLP’s advanced LED technology. Having previously worked with the GLP X4 Series, he upgraded to the X5 Series for this production, using:
- 69 X5 Compact fixtures to enhance the lighting design with greater brightness and improved color mixing, thanks to GLP’s innovative lime chip technology.
- X5 IP Bars as the primary backlight wash, delivering smooth, rich colors without unwanted triangular haze artifacts.
- JDC1 hybrid strobes to recreate the high-energy camera flashes of a fashion show, adding dynamic visual impact.
Poet positioned the X5 Compacts in two elegant arches framing the stage, a nod to the lighting structures seen above fashion show runways. The fixtures provided a perfect blend of theatrical precision and rock concert energy, ensuring the production could deliver everything from dramatic spotlights to immersive color washes.
